On Sunday the 22nd of November 1998 one of the main dancing associations in Britain (The United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing) recognised Salsa as a rhythm that is, to say, making the dances of Salsa and Merengue official. Good news, hey? The UK Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing launched a new committee of five members (Nelson Batista, Paul Harris, Elder Sanchez, Xihomara Granados and Ansell Chezan) and presented them with the fellowship certificate
PROMOTIONS:
Elder has been actively promoting both international and local bands within the UK. These include such bands as Tito Gomez, Gran Combo, Lebron Brothers, Canario, etc. and organised concerts. Newspaper & Magazines Articles
Several articles have been written about Elder and the "Salsa phenomenon". These include articles in The Independent, The Daily Telegraph, Punter, Nine to Five, Health and Fitness, Straight No Chaser, The Sunday Mirror and various Latin American publications.
RADIO:
Elder has co written and presented Dance workshops (Spring 1996), while also at times taking part in Everybody Salsa and Radio 3.
FILM:
As well as being involved in the production of three of his own videos, Elder has also been involved in the filming of Salsa scenes in two British feature films, which have been released in 1999. The films are 'Elephant Juice' and 'Janice heard 45 wpm'.
TELEVISION:
Elder has made several television appearances both in interviews and performing Salsa including programs such as Capital Woman, The James Whale Show, The Big Breakfast, Ch4, Granada Television, Sky and Cable TV.
UK SALSA LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD:
As a pivotal figure on the Salsa scene in the early 90's, Elder Sanchez established one of the major salsa teaching schools in London. Responsible for teaching literally thousands of students, including many of today's established salsa teachers and performers, he is undoubtedly one of the major catalysts for UK Salsa as it is today. In 2002 Elder was awarded the UK Salsa Lifetime Achievement Award by The UK International Salsa Congress in recognition of his ‘outstanding contribution to the growth of Salsa in the UK through his excellent instruction, promotion and inspirational dancing'.
Elder is currently teaching at Firefly Bar, Wessex House & Latin Palace to ensure the level of teaching provided by Salsateca Dance School is the highest. |
