5-WEEK RUMBA WITH SALSA COURSE

Welcome to Our Rumba Course – Body Movement, Musicality & Authentic Afro-Cuban Roots

Step into the heart of Cuban dance with this 5-week Rumba Cubana course, open to all levels (minimum higher improver). Rumba is where Cuban body movement, rhythm, and expression truly come alive — and it’s also one of the best ways to elevate your salsa styling and musicality. Throughout the course, dancers will explore the three traditional styles of Rumba Cubana: Yambú, Guaguancó, and Columbia, with a strong focus on musical timing, rhythm, and style. In a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, we’ll work seriously on technique while keeping the experience fun, cultural, and full of sabor, helping you develop a rumba that feels natural, clean, and expressive.

Who is this course for?

This course is for higher improver Cuban salsa/casino dancers or Intermediate/Adv Cross Body Salsa Dancers who want to deepen their body movement, musicality, and confidence through Rumba. It’s ideal if you feel comfortable with salsa basics and partnerwork, and are ready to develop more grounded movement, control, and authentic flavour to enrich your dancing.

What you will learn

Each class is designed to be accessible, engaging, and enjoyable. Sessions focus first on developing Rumba technique and movement, building a strong foundation in Cuban body mechanics and musicality. From there, we explore how these elements translate into Salsa, guiding students to integrate Rumba naturally into their social dancing. The goal is not only to learn Rumba in its traditional form, but to use it confidently within Salsa, creating a dance that feels richer, more grounded, and more expressive. This blended approach keeps the classes dynamic, balanced, and dancer-friendly.

  • Cuban body movement fundamentals: posture, grounding, hip motion, torso control, arms, and expression

  • Timing & rhythm training: feeling the clave, understanding accents, and moving with intention rather than “counting only”

  • Rumba vocabulary and technique: key steps, transitions, and the characteristic feel that makes it look and feel authentic

  • Musicality & interpretation: playing with pauses, hits, textures, and responding to the music naturally

  • Styling for salsa dancers: how to bring Rumba body movement and attitude into your salsa without forcing it

  • A brief introduction to the roots and culture of Cuban Rumba to understand what you’re dancing and why
